Vertical Jamming rescues two expansive longform pieces from a tour only CD released in 2016, and adds a previously unreleased track, “Drone”.

The hypnotic sprawl of the music bridges the dystopian sci-fi soundscapes of Edward Artemiv’s Stalker soundtrack and the untethered generative labyrinth of contemporary Autechre productions, whilst still retaining smudges of human warmth that anchor the listening experience: a primitive Suicide-eque drum machine that drives the hums and bleeps of the synth forward, or a drone collapsing into squawks and trills akin to a flock of birds.

Phew is a legendary figure in Japanese underground music. Starting out in 1978 fronting one of Osaka's earliest punk groups, Aunt Sally, and going on to collaborate with a whole host of notable names as a solo artist in the 80s, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Conny Plank, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit of Can, Alex Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten, and Chrislo Haas of DAF. In recent years she's made music on record or live with Ana Da Silva of The Raincoats, Jim O'Rourke, Oren Ambarchi, Ikue Mori, and Yoshimi of OOIOO / Boredoms / Saicobab. For Disciples however, the most interesting aspect of Phew's work is the fact she has made her strongest musical work in the last few years, working entirely on her own. There's a lot of interest from crate-digger type labels in her early 80s new wave oriented work, and the names she's worked with are impressive, but there's no doubt in our minds that her two most recent records, Light Sleep and Voice Hardcore, are modern classics. It’s this period of her work that we were keen to explore with these releases, a contemporary archive of incredible and unique music.

Model Home - One Year

*FIRST FEW COPIES COME WITH A FREE, SUPER LIMITED 'MODEL HOME X PURE RAVE' MIXTAPE - A 'ONE YEAR' DIS-ASSEMBLAGE BY DETROIT TURNTABLIST CREW (AND WOLF EYES AFFILIATES) PURE RAVE

A1. NappyNappa's truly free-form rap vocals, along with Patrick Cain's unique electronic production conjures a distinct do-it-yourself atmosphere, which to our ears is closer in spirit to Adrian Sherwood/On-U Sound, Thomas Leer, Crash Course In Science et al than it is Def Jux.

Pure head spinning, jaw dropping, future-thinking energy on this one.

"Otherworldly beat science from the currently vibrant Washington DC underground. A steady stream of records followed, hyperactive broadsides of percussion set off by a winning knack for the buried earworm melody, much like his mentor RDJ. He also memorably collaborated with Björk and remixed Autechre for Warp's 10+3 compilation, but things have been quiet since the release of his last studio album Alright! arrived in 2007.

Rave 'Till You Cry signals a return across 18 tracks selected and sequenced by Disciples, joining the dots between the outsider junglizm of the '96 Drum n Bass Classixxx “compilation” and his earliest rephlexions on hallucinatory, bassbin-rattling IDM with Boku Mo Wakaran. Across four sides of vinyl, the joyous sugar-rush tunes of classic 90s Nintendo games meet drill-like breaks, ambient drone and slabs of bit-crushed noise. It also showcases a more introspective side to the Bogdan sound, the soundtrack to a labyrinth of tunnels loaded up with gurners starting to feel unwell as the early hours begin to dissipate into the harsh rays of morning light. Much like the recent resurgence of Digital Hardcore's Christoph De Babalon and the off-kilter time signature of recent records by Demdike Stare and Rian Treanor, Bogdan Raczynski's return is a timely reminder of the menace and beauty contained within irregular rhythm science." - DISCIPLES

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0618/5988/9376/products/Bogdan-Raczynski-_E2_80_93-Rave-Till-You-Cry.jpg?v=1640603208
